Dear Parents,
It is hard to believe that we are now down to our last week of school. This week we have our kindergarten graduation on Wednesday morning at 10:30. Then, on Thursday evening at 7:00, our 8th graders will be celebrating their graduation. I am sensing more and more that the "natives" are getting restless and are ready for the summer to begin!
I want to express my appreciation to the few individuals who helped out in various ways over the weekend. First, I want to recognize Mike Allee who spent a couple of hours sweeping up all of the scoria from our parking lot. Corrin and Makenzie Stine, along with Heidi Brumleve, did a nice job of cutting the grass in front of the school and cleaning up the grounds. Aaron and Aliyah Reimer, along with Fred and Matthew Jones, got involved in the highway cleanup. A special "Thank You" to each of you!
As we wrap up this school year, I would also like to express my thanks to the teachers who will be leaving us and moving on to other opportunities and responsibilities. Each of you have contributed in significant ways to the young people under your care. Thank you so much for your faithful service.
In spite of the obvious relief it will be in finishing up this last week of school, I am already looking forward to this next year of school. Usually for me, that doesn't happen until much later in the summer. Let me share a few of my thoughts about this next school year: 1) I'd appreciate your prayers regarding our hiring of new teachers. The strength of any school depends so much on the teachers who teach and mentor the young people under their care. 2) This past week one of our Freshmen, Shealie Jenkins, came in to talk with me about promoting a stronger spirit amongst the student body. I am looking forward to talking with several students this summer on their ideas on how we can work together to accomplish this. 3) Recently, some parents and the board met together to discuss where we are. From that meeting I sensed there was a realization that everyone was on the same page in wanting CHS to be the very best school it can be. I am truly excited about promoting parental partnerships to help us as a school. 4) My desire as a school is that we must prepare our young people for the next phase in their lives. They need to be challenged to think; they need to be able to defend their faith; and, they need to have a solid education so that they are prepared to meet the academic rigors of university and become difference-makers in our society. 5) And, most importantly, our students need to see Christ modeled by our staff and faculty. My desire is that they will know they are unique and loved by God and that they will understand the part they are to play in His world by serving and ministering to others.
As I conclude this letter, let me say there is some talk of possibly getting together as a school family later this summer. I will let you know if these plans do indeed come together. Let's be praying throughout the summer for God's rich blessing on this next school year. If you would like to come in and talk with me, please feel free to do so.
I hope you and your family have a wonderful summer! Dave Entwistle
